    Hello Tony

May I recommend Naval Arctic Operations Handbook, parts 1 and 2.  1949.  Part 2 includes an extraordinary map of the Arctic.

All aspects of arctic operations, to include navigation, is covered.  Grid navigation is covered.  I have been looking for years for HO 230 Goetz; High Latitude Celestial Navigation Tables; 1945; but have yet to encounter one.  Years ago, I discovered only 400 copies were made.  I continue to hope, but it is a fading one.

The two volumes come up from time to time on ebay, usually only one volume or the other.  Good luck!  At least you won't be competing with me, I have my copies

    Brad

    Thanks for all the replies!

I know the "Pole is AP" trick, but it works only in vicinity (~2° as the books say) of a pole.

What do I do at, say 75° Lat? Or at 80°?

I found this page and it is a good insight (on the topic of the Grid Navigation) but too much about gyrocompasses. I need similar (beginner's) material with more attention to sights and reductions.

    Warm regards,
    Tony
