Well I sure need to pass along a survey of one to all of you. I recently posted a need to know question on what watch and what sextant to use for Navigation classes and in Blue water. I received many answers and they were almost unanimous. here's what I found and by the way, thanks to all of you who did take the time to reply to questions that have been asked many times before on these e-mail lists: 1.Best watch--- Casio, large dial quartz, dual time zones, well lighted, compensate via WWV or Naval Observatory as needed. Or use GPS and compensate as with the Casio. 2. Best Sextant: This one is without a doubt very interesting. Nobody really bad mouthed the Davis sextant, but EVERYONE recommended highly the Astralab III B as the best. Knowing what the normal results on surveys are, this one is way outside the bell curve. Astralab it is! Begs the question I think that it would be interesting to do some cooperative Marketing surveys on here in regards to equipment. Thanks to all who replied, and it shows the Cruising and Navigation Boards are the best around.
