Who in his right mind would join Harrison in fighting the Board of Longitude?

Yeah. That'll fix the world. Here's the cartoon version: "Hey, kid-- Here's a million bucks. Now go cure cancer ...or something." Maybe someone should show PM Cameron the scene from that old "Austin Powers" movie where Dr. Evil demands a ransom of "one MILLION dollars" and everyone bursts out laughing (he's been frozen for thirty years and doesn't realize that a million just ain't what it used to be).
By the way, one of the bloggers connected with the Board of Longitude project has
gone to some lengths to remind folks that there was no actual "Longitude Prize". I think it's a fine distinction, but it's worth considering. The Board of Longitude had broad authority to issue awards at its discretion with specific awards for certain longitude achievements.
