Re: New Soviet era sextant SNO-T

The SNO-T is an excellent sextant (I have 2). I would keep it till
you are sure how strong your CN interest is. Go ahead and purchase
one of the less expensive plastic (or whatever) sextants to learn.
Once you are commuted (in several senses of the meaning), start using
the SNO-T - it is an excellent instrument.

    Some relevant questions:
Did it come with "tools" and spare mirror - "new" ones generally do
Which tools were included (picture would be informative)
Try moving the index arc - sole of the unused SNO-Ts have grease set
up to the point where the arc can't be released.
Be careful if you try to adjust the mirror as it is quite easy to
damage the adjusting mechanism, particularly if you don't have the
    appropriate tools.
Take a look at the lens in the low power telescope to see if there is
any "crazing" in the optics - most will show some - it is not a big
deal in terms of optical quality and it can be (reasonably) easily
    fixed.
Does it have a vernier scale on the micrometer - very few did - its
not a big deal if it does not, but it is a cool feature to have.

Some pictures of exactly what you ave would be interesting.

Have fun with it - it is a very fine instrument.

    Cheers!

    Bruce
