New celestial workshops and "Season Pass"
    From: Frank Reed
    Date: 2026 Jan 5, 10:02 -0800

    Quick Detail:
Sign up for any online workshop at ReedNavigation.com with a NavList discount code NL3434: https://ReedNavigation.com/?disco=NL3434. And consider a "Celestial Season Pass" (same discount code applies) for access to all twelve workshops in the next six months for less than 2.5x the standard price of each workshop individually.

    More Detail:
I have a new season of online celestial navigation workshops beginning at the end of January. For the next three months, these are "Atlantic" sessions, scheduled primarily for partipants on either side of the Atlantic. There will be a three-month run of "Pacific" sessions in the Spring.

Up first is my very popular "Modern Celestial Navigation" Jan 31-Feb 1. This covers sextant use and adjustment in detail and Sun sights at all times of day, as well. This is a modern workshop. We use decimal angles and solar-powered calculators, and we get latitude and longitude with minimal paperwork.

"Modern Celestial" is part of a trio of workshops. You can stop at 'Modern' with all you need to cross any ocean using Sun sights, or you can continue with "Advanced Celestial" and then, a new workshop, "Expert Celestial".

Prefer more historical spice in your celestial navigation? In "Celestial Navigation in the Age of Sail" we cover much of the same introductory material as in "Modern Celestial" (above) but from the point of view of 19th century technqiues. We learn directly from old logbooks, following calculations just as they were done 150 years ago. Want more history? My "Lunars and Longitude" workshop covers the essential history of the method of turning the Moon into a celestial clock, as well as tricks and methods for modern practice. Lunars are easy if you approach them the right way! But Lunars are also fun, and, new this year, try "Advanced Lunars" for more history, more math, and more practical advice for the modern lunarian.

Here's the full schedule for the next six months. Register for any of these (NavList discount code included):
