I don't have blue water experience just pushing barges on the Mississippi now I am learning Celestial navagation and did not grow up in your traditions. But here goes. By the way I am 78 years old .  My observation is many times some are overlooking some important basics. #1 you must be able to see the best you are able to and  be willing to do what you can in $ to get there  # 2 you need to balance the forces between your shoulders by using your left eye to center the sexton between your shoulders #3 use an eye piece like I am developing to brace the sexton against your forehead this will help eliminate more of the bobbing around as you try to keep the bubble , the horizon line and the sun moon or what ever all lined up at  one time. 

The last one is practice, not just a few times but hundreds of times and keep a log of them so you can see your irregularities and analyze them. Too many times people want to buy there way in; can't do that you want skill you must develop it
