Dear Will,
You asked: “What are some possible ways of further advancing my knowledge and skills?”
I would recomend Lunars. It is a fascinating aspect of celestial navigation. It is a way to finetune your sextant skills. It is a way to look into the history of navigation. It is perfectly appropriate for land based observations. And if you do a little research on navigation history, you will find that even the best known navigation instument SEXTANT exists thanks to Lunars (have you ever wondered why sextant allows to measure angles up to 120° or more degrees, while maximum possible altitude is 90°?).
