You may be correct. I've only spent a short time in the Southern Hemisphere and didn't know to look for the Magellanic Clouds until after I was back home in Georgia. I based my comment on the envy of the stargazers who had never seen them and looking at Terrasto.com and the 20 inch or so Light Bucket that the photographer had. I saw that he was near Melbourne where it was not DARK. My assumption was that either he could instantaneously gather more light than a human eye or that the 20 inch scope x time would allow his camera to see what I wouldn't. So much for assumptions.
Now I just need to arrange a fact finding trip to Australia.
