Looking in my 1978 Nautical Almanac it was done that way at least for the last 39 years.

I'm sure there is a reason for it. Perhaps NavListers know. The 2017 Commercial Edition of the Nautical Almanac omitts the Moon's usual GHA, v, Dec, d and HP data during August 21st total eclipse during GMT 18:00 and 23:00. Instead, it states "A total eclipse of the Sun occurs on this date. See page 5."
Page 5 simply describes the two eclipses of the Sun and one of the Moon for 2017. Again, no data is added.
I can understand the value of a reminder of some time for this event on the Aug 21st page, but why leave out usual data?
Does anyone know why? Sure, you might not be able to observe it, but it's position is still predicted.
