John: Your book makes no mention of a correction for north-south movement or declination change. You do note that "vessels moving rapidly north or south . . . " cause degradation. Many experienced navigators have expressed disbelief that moving at sailboat speeds can have a significant effect. The error due to this in my example is seventeen miles. I have remarked that I was lucky to have first tried the method while sailing a southwesterly course. Otherwise, I might still be among the ignorant.
