Sam,
Artificial Horizon Sun Observations
1. Measure total angle between Sun images.
2. (a) +32' added to lower limb observation
(b)-32' subtracted from upper limb observation.
(c) superimposed left as is.
Do not confuse upper and lower limb observations so why not do all three of the above.
3. +/- index error (index correction)
Do not confuse on the arc (-) with off the arc (+).
For your LAN example: on the arc reads 4' (-4' correction) off the arc reads 56' (+4' correction)
4. Divide by 2
5. Subtract refraction to get Ho
