    Bill,

    > I'm impressed (and a bit jealous) of your results.

The conditions were not ideal for sailing (too little wind)
but ideal for CelNav and sextant testing.
Still I am very surprised that so simple, low-tech, old sextant,
on which even perpendicularity error cannot be adjusted,
gives such good results (in fact, the results are better than with my
    SNO-T!)

Here some tower results (there is no Sears building around,
so my distances were much smaller).

June 18, 10:25 Laboe monument 42' (over sea level)
             10:28 Laboe monument 40'
Height of the monument (written on the map): 72 meters.
Computed distances: 3.2 nm, 3.3 nm, true distance
from GPS posit5ion read from the map 3.2 nm.

    June 22, 12:17, Laboe monument 31', compouted distance 4.3nm,
distance from the map and GPS 4.4 nm.

June 23, 10:59, Friedrichshaven lighthouse in Kielerforde, height 32 m,
was seen under the angle 29' without scope, and 33'
with the scope. Computed distances 2nm and 1.8 nm,
distance read from the map 1.8 nm.

On my opinion, this is a reasonable accuracy for practical purposes,
but these results show only 2 correct digits in the answer,
while my astronomical observations with the same sextant give
    essentially 4 correct digits:-)
Of course I could not read the distance from the map with
    accuracy less that 0.1 mile.

    Alex.
