Has anyone "one-handed" a box sextant?

I didn't think so but, it's possible. It's no big problem to hold the 3" box sextant with your left thumb underneath and middle plus index finger on top - and to use your ring finger to roll the adjustment knob. That's in the living room.

In an unstable, open cockpit biplane, I'd want to have a cord attached and around my neck, and to preset the sextant from the precomputed altitudes. I still think it would be a 50-50 situation whether to one-hand the sextant or to try to hold the stick between your knees while you made quick two-handed sight adjustments.
    Regards, Noell
