An occultation of Mars will be visible from North America on Monday night local time (early hours of Tuesday Jan 14 UTC). Unfortunately, the Moon will be full. For instance, at 40N 90W first contact is Jan 14 02:04 UTC. The bodies are 34° high in the east. Moon phase angle is 5°, or practically full. At minimum separation the body centers are separated 26″. Occultation ends 03:12 UTC on the dark limb. However, the 5° phase angle doesn't give much of a dark limb. I'm not sure it will be noticeable. At least there should be no problem finding a body if you want to shoot lunars this weekend. -- Paul Hirose sofajpl.com
