In the good old US of A, weapons on a yacht are a matter of state/local
laws. With an Indiana carry permit I can most certainly carry handguns
on Indiana and Michigan waters, or any other state that honors the
Indiana permit or Utah non-resident permit. Subject of course to park
and local regulations. Illinois waters become another matter, especially
Chicago. If I pass through Illinois watersor other staes not honoring my
permits without coming into a harbor, I can transport under the federal
McClure Volker Act. I suspect woe is me if we tie up in a Chicago
harbor, even if I do not remove the weapon from the vessel. I have never
received a definitive answer on that from Coast Guard and have not
approached Illinois/Chicago authorities with the question.

The same goes for long guns (boaters' favorites being the Mossberg 500
Mariner and Remington 870 Marine Magnum). Abide by state and federal
laws and you are good to go.

I would think Frank is correct on undisputed international waters. What
happens on salt water bordering USA states, as well as bays etc. is
    unclear to me.
