Yup...Imperial Japanese Navy, a now sadly passed on relation of mine (a decorated USMC pilot) spent years stationed in Japan.
I too found Dreisenstok a remarkably compact and friendly cookbook method I could do out of the box with a pencil and get correct answers (always pleasing). I initially learned on the ponderous 229 (Hardheaded determined to do things longhand), then a calculator. If you throw the calculator overboard (or not), I want Dreisenstok in my sextant box. 229 has lost any attractiveness since I've learned other tables and approaches.
