I just now visited the website by Bill Morris, sextantbook.com, which is of course a fantastic resource on sextants, and it has been listed under "Resources" on every NavList web page since 2014. The pages at sextantbook.com include a link to the NavList community, which is nice. Unfortunately, that link points to Google Groups, and it doesn't work. NavList was hosted through Google Groups from July 2006 through December 2009 ...a long time ago! I'm sure Bill will fix that. No problem.
This is a problem that we should work to fix wherever it's found. NavList will die without new visitors. It's in a modest decline right now, but it can get worse quickly if folks can't find us. And it's not just human beings. The search engines are driven strongly by links. Sites with lots of links get higher listings in Google and other search engines. Sites with dead links are doubly impacted. So do your part if you want the community to survive and better yet grow. If you find a link to NavList that's wrong, contact the website owner and ask them to fix it.
The correct link for the NavList community is fer3.com/arc. There is also an alias that you can use: fer3.com/NavList. And fer3.com itself contains a direct link at the top to the NavList message boartds so, in a pinch, that's enough. For anyone new(-ish) here, it's called fer3 because that was a website I had available (my initials are FER) many years ago to build into an archive and eventually the complete hosting service for the NavList community.
Also, if you wish to link a specific message, you have two good options: there's a long URL (link) that includes some info about the subject, author, and date, like:
fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/long-lost-lunars-FrankReed-dec-2003-w12342
or
fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/Sunclock-apparatus-GeoffreyKolbe-jun-2021-g50654.
You can also drop everything before the final code for a shorter link:
fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/w12342
or
fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/g50654.
Be sure to test before you use any link! Just copy and paste into your browser's address bar to make sure it works.
