I have seen a couple of older "Davis Master Sextants" for sale on EBay recently. This is clearly not the Mark 15 or Mark 25 -- the micrometer drum is put on differently, and the vernier scale is fixed at the end of the arm, parallel to the arc scale on the body. In general, though, it looks a lot like the Mark 15 or Mark 25. The seller of this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3623946817&category=793&r d=1#ebayphotohosting said he read something about "mark 12 sextant adjustment" in the manual. Was there a Davis Mark 12 Master Sextant? (as in the title of the manual that comes with it) Or is this the Davis Mark 20? Was it made of the same plastic used in the Mark 15/25? Did the gearing work the same way? Would I find the precision and ease of use more or less equivalent to that of the Mark 15/25? How about details such as the construction and mounting of the filters and mirrors? Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge of these older Davis Master Sextants. Renee
