Omega was shut down several years ago as GPS became fully operational.

Omega operated at a radio frequency of 10 kilohertz (yes, 10 KHz).   Since the optimal size of an antenna is inversely proportional to the frequency, Omega antennas were giants.   As a result, the tallest structures on two of the continents (Africa and either South America or Australia) were the Omega antennas operated by the US government.

Has anyone on this list had experience using OMEGA? I know how it worked (centilanes, etc.) but I wonder how it worked in practice. Is this system in place or was it shut down? when?
