I saw a great talk by Jeremy Batch at Manchester Cruising Association on the history of celestial navigation and that audience seemed to really enjoy it. It had lots of stories andanecdotes and descriptions of pre-sextant instruments. If you just want to entertain the audience (rather than train them to do it) history of CN seems a good way to go.
