If you only have an hour for beginners who are keen sailors, in my experience of several similar lectures, eyes glaze over very quickly if you cover too much, including M SinclaireLOPs etc. I just do "if you are lost and GPS down, here is the noon meridian sight for latitude and rough longitude (several sights before and after noon and graph approximate LAN.)All they need to understand is EOT and Declination + quartz watch set to GMT. Simple Davis plastic, no tables, no calculator.Easy. As we say in England."KISS" (keep it simple stupid!)
Will get you home +/- 15-20 miles.
Best wishes
Francis
