The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor took place around 8 AM on December 7th.
The  Japanese invasion of Malaya started around midnight on December 8th.

    Which event happened first? :-)

The invasion of Malaya came first.  Time zones change, but as far as I can see, in December 1941, Hawaii was ten hours 30 minutes behind Greenwich, and Malaya seven hours 30 minutes ahead of Greenwich.  Therefore 7th/07.48hrs LMT Hawaii was 7th/18.18hrs at Greenwich and 7th/25.48hrs or 8th/01.48hrs LMT in Malaya.  Therefore, The Japanese invasion of Malaya occurred between one and two hours before the attack on Pearl Harbour.  The other difference was the British/Indian/Australian/New Zealand Forces knew the Japanese invasion fleet was approaching sometime between 4th and 7th, but their Commander decided not to attempt to attack it at sea on 7th for fear of giving the Japanese an excuse to invade.  DaveP
