    Hello Mike.
    Yes it's an "anti-backlash" mechanism and if the mirror doesn't follow immediately (the pallet must always be in contact with the button of the endless screw), it means that the mirror axis still sticks a bit in its bore. You'll probably have to take it apart and lubricate the bore with fine grease. Sometimes working it back and forth from stop to stop can librerates or free it. 
    Congrats for your very nice bubble. The hardest has been done. All what remains is easy in comparison!
    How did you seal back your reservoir? Did you tap the filling chunnel and plug it with a small screw or did you seal it by soldering the inlet, or both?
