All,
"Good lord! Who let you in here? :) I suppose you like music by that "Kid Rock" and movies with that youngster Johnny Depp (*)." -FER
Haha! I hope this explains my naïveté when it comes to some things. :) ...And no, Frank, I can't stand Kid Rock. I much prefer Saint-Saëns. And as for Johnny Depp...meh. ;)
Well...okay, I do listen to some heavy metal, too, and I am in a rock band. (Really. See our Facebook page at facebook.com/secondsightmusic. But be warned: I haven't updated it in ages. I'm the guy with the blue Jackson guitar!)
I must admit, though: when I tell most people who are my age or younger that C.N. is a hobby of mine, their eyes kind of glass over and they just nod and say, "Yeah, okay." But I have run into a couple of "youngsters" with at least a mild interest in the subject. I don't believe C.N. as we know it will ever be entirely lost, though. Barring some catastrophic destruction of books and the internet, anyway. (God forbid!) One thing I have learned is that even though the majority of today's younger generation may seem to shun knowledge like the plague, there are actually more than a few out there who are interested in keeping history alive and learning skills that may not be necessarily...uh, necessary.
Keep in mind as well that with the ubiquity of the internet in today's society, one doesn't have as much need to seek a face to face relationship with a teacher/instructor. Lessons on just about any subject you can think of are just a few keystrokes away, and practically for free. So, I think this contributes to a perception that fewer people may be interested in a particular field than actually are. Take me for example: I was in the middle of teaching myself lunars when I got stuck and finally decided to email Frank with questions about his "Easy Lunars" page, which he mentioned just a few posts back. Had I not chosen to contact him, I may have never even found NavList. That's why I think Mr. Morrow's idea is such a good one. I have the desire to make it a reality, just not the time or knowledge of how.
