I remember reading in some aviation magazine, years ago, of a guy who flew a Cessna 150 from Canada to Europe by flying further north and hitting every airport along the way. This reduced the longest leg to only 395 NM from Kulusuk on the east coast of Greenland to Iceland. The legs were 328 crossing the Davis Strait; 360 crossing Greenland; 395 to Reykavick; 222 to the east coast of Iceland; 268 to the Faroes; and the final leg of 260 to Wick Scotland; 1804 NM in total.
All those legs were shorter than the 1400 NM leg I flew from Newfoundland to Sant Maria in the Azores.
