Over the next few days, I’ll be mainly observing the Moon’s horns, but last night was so bright I couldn’t help taking another look at Orion’s Sword. Please will some kind person check out my calculation of the Sword’s orientation to N-S on the Celestial Spere. As Mintaka is on the Celestial Equator, I’ve used plane trigonometry.
From Air Almanac 2022
Hatysa (Iota Orionis) Dec S 5° 53.9’ SHA 275° 52.3’
Mintaka (Delta Orionis) Dec S 0° 17.1’ SHA 276° 43.0’
Delta Dec 5° 36.8’ D SHA 0° 50.7’
Orientation = Tan-1 50.7/336.8 = 8.56° East of North
Thanks. DaveP
