If the tip of the arrow points roughly north, the tail of the arrow must point roughly south. I'll check next time he appears.
Please forget my last message re the tail of the arrow pointing south. It sounded too good to be true. I’ve just tried this on my Philips’ Planisphere for 51.5N. Although the tip of the arrow points roughly to the North Pole, its tail just swings around the horizon. My observation a few days ago with Orion roughly south was pure coincidence. DaveP
