Orion's belt for azimuth

For observers in mid-northern latitudes (USA, southern Canada, most of Europe, Mediterranean region, etc. --anywhere between about 25° and 55° N), a quick glance at Orion's belt can give you a rough compass bearing. If the belt is low in the sky and vertical, you're looking east to southeast. If the belt is horizontal, you're looking west to southwest. And there's an EASY way to remember.
