Here's a view above some palm trees from an episode of a travelogue series called "The Reluctant Traveler" which has comedian Eugene Levy visiting various countries around the world... really roughing it in opulent resorts. I watched part of an episode tonight. There's a view of the night sky, image attached below, that's nice for what it shows, and also a bit sad for what it's missing.
How many "official" navigation stars can you spot in this image (official=found among the 57 on the daily pages of the modern "Nautical Almanac")? Do you recognize this part of the sky? It took me all of ten seconds to identify it since it contains my favorite obsolete constellation which also contains my favorite nearby star. It's "nearby" meaning it's just anout a million times farther away than most people's favorite nearby star.
