Pedigree of C Plath Sextant

Hello all,
A new member to the group.
A wonderful individual has donated a C Plath sextant to our local
United States Power Squadron group.
I would like to research the pedigree and history of this sextant.
Can anyone provide suggestions where I might start my research?
What I know:
C Plath from Hamburg
US customs receipt dated in 1946 (the certificate of
accuracy from Plath is not present)
Aluminum index arm and frame
The number 7666 is on the index arm
The number 23311 is on the right end of the arc
In the original wooden box
Original accessories are present
I would really like to develop a history for this sextant.
