I would suspect that the object being observed and the platform from which the observation is taken would be of significance. While the sextant on the left appears to have an advantage, having attempted noon sights from a 22 foot Catalina from Mystic to Block Island in some chop, I would probably say it's a toss up. However a much larger and steadier platform would no doubt favor the more accurate instrument
