Plath artificial horizon

I've just acquired a Plath artificial horizon (came with a Plath
sextant) but darned if I can find the bubble or whatever.  Either a
source for instructions or some advice will be most appreciated.
Also, I was suprised to find that the scale on this sextant is black
instead of brass or bronze.  The serial number is 42511 which would
make it a sextant built in the early to mid 60's.
