Copying from the other thread since it might get lost in there, and because latitude puzzles are popular. From the original caption, you know you're somewhere between Hawaii and Tahiti. Based on the stars in the image, most of which among the brighter six stars are "official" Nautical Almanac navigation stars, what is your latitude? How accurate is your estimate from the photo?
By the way, that thing they do with their hands is little more than the usual hand-based angle measurement trick you may have learned in your earliest experience in navigation. It's been adopted by the Polynesian Voyaging Society I think mostly because it "looks good". It feels like some traditional ritual, and that's what it's intended to represent. They could just as easily do it with a meter stick or something with a scale, but that would look less "traditional". And would it really improve accuracy anyway??
