Re the price you mentioned, $225 for a K & E slide rule, I think that the seller might have gotten involved with "controlled substances" of one kind or another, or might otherwise simply be playing silly games, either that or they hope that someone with more money than brains might trip over their offer.
I have 4 slide rules I purchased on Ebay, one a Post Versalog, the others being K & E's, a 4081-3, another a 4080-3, the last being a 4070-3, this last seemingly a fairly basic rule. All are completely functional, my abilities therewith being a limiting factor, and otherwise undamaged. None of the K&E's exhibit the dreaded K&E Cursor Rot. As I remember, none of them cost more than $25.
Looking at the asking prices for some stuff on Ebay, I wonder as whether the offering parties are really interested in making a sale. Who knows.
