According to Stellarium, the Sun’s dec affects whether the line though the Moon’s horns passes through the Celestial Poles. Go to Stellarium Web. Select 22nd April find the Moon, select Equatorial Grid, then step back the date a month at a time. The line wiggles from one side of the celestial meridian to the other. The nearest crescent to the equinox is almost spot on a meridian. The nearest to a solstice will be way off. The thing is, is it a degree off for a degree of Sun’s declination? Also, we still have the Moon’s parallax to worry about. DaveP
