    Peter, and Kermit,

    At first thought it seems reasonable that if you travel along a (small) circle of equal altitudes, the true azimuth to the heavenly body would be changing continuously while the altitude is constant. Now Peter has shown that this is not necessarily the case. The explanation to this apparent paradox lies in the fact that the meridians, from which you define the azimuths, converge towards the pole. Azimuth change due to your movement is nullified by the changed "direction" of the meridian.
