Yes, indeed. It's not very accurate for an altitude, but given that caveat it has some use. And I mention this in my Modern Celestial Navigation classes! The center of the rainbow is identical to the anti-sun spot in the sky: opposite in azimuth and negative altitude. And the primary rainbow itself is 42° away from that anti-sun point. As I say, this is only marginally useful as an altitude, but it can be quite useful for a quick visual compass check.
