That's a rather Sobelian approach to the birth of 'modern science' crediting it again to a 'lonely genius'. I recommend reading the posts of the 'Renaissance Mathematicus' (https://thonyc.wordpress.com) putting this into the perspective of a multitude of scientists working together (and against each other) in the renaisance. I recommend reading also the contributions of the former 'Longitude project' people at Greenwich (Katy Barritt, Richard Dunn, Sophie Waring, Rebekah Higgitt).
