     and into the 1970s.  The HP 35 was introduced in 1972, and I believe Wikipedia is correct in calling it the world’s first scientific pocket calculator.  I had to use 5-place logarithms to reduce some physical chemistry lab data in the fall of 1972, the HP 35 being too expensive for this undergraduate..  Those 5-place logs were hard on my tired brain at the end of that semester.
