Practical limits to distance off by VSA
    From: David McN

I'm yacht racing this weekend on a course that will provide an opportunity to test my distance off by VSA nav on the return leg, that is, the non serious leg. I have a couple of landmarks in mind. But, the highest landmark is also furthest away from the coast. My question is should I ignore landmarks that are further inland than a certain distance? If so, what distance is a rule of thumb? My HOE can be assumed to be 2m. Secondly, for landmarks close to shore, do I need a true horizon or a shore horizon?
