Sigma as a sum of the series is the capital (upper case)
sigma, and sigma as a variance is a small (lower case)
sigma, so there will be no confusion on this list,
even if sometimes we will discuss series, which is unlikely:-)
(Lower case sigma looks somewhat similar to number 6).

It is a standard notation is probability and statistics.
