Mr. Huxtable and all,I don't have time to discuss this today but will
tomorrow.Here are 3 book titles that actually have chapters on all these
subjects.I don't know if they can be bought overseas or not.All Merchant
Marine Officers of Unlimited Tonnage must study from these books.The
U.S.C.G. tests for A.B.'s, Deck Officers and Engineering Officers are
derived from these books.These texts discuss things such as prop walk,slip
and pitch,fluid dynamics,boat handleing etc. to name a few subjects.No other
manuals I know of discuss these subjects in this much detail.They are rather
pricey but worth the investment.
Here are the books: "The Merchant Marine Officers' Handbook" by Edwin A.
Turpin or William Haylor
"The Merchant Marine Engineers' Manual" vol. I
+ II by Everett C. Hunt
The handbook is about $80.00 and the manual is about $120.00.If you guys
would invest in a copy of "Bowditch" you should invest in these.You most
likely can find used copies of these for a lot less at a chandlers or
nautical book store.
By the way,in all my time in the M.M., I never served on a single screw
vessel.
