The Quadri-drone as an aid to marine survey...

The Quadri-drone as an aid to marine survey, or Wow I've found my outboard'.

In Northumberland they sing ‘The Mud Tyne’s All Mine’. On the Humber we’re more interested in where it is today, because you can be certain that it’s moved slightly since yesterday, and it’ll move a bit further tomorrow. Above the Bridge, the shipping channel moves around annually, sometimes favoring the south side, sometimes the north side, and sometimes the middle. As a result, survey vessels are out daily checking the hot spots and new charts for the areas above the Bridge are published bi-monthly. Unfortunately, the bottom has been changing so rapidly in recent years that the survey vessels have little time to venture into the minor channels used to gain access to smaller yacht havens like Brough and Winteringham and we have had an increasing number of groundings. As a result, one member of Humber Yawl Club has taken matters into his own hands and begun making videos of the approach to Brough Haven from downriver and upriver at low water to show where the deepest water can be found. He has put these on You Tube along with the date they were made.

Now the interesting bit. You’ll remember I sold the little Doranne to a keen young chap last October, and I’m pleased to see him making far more use of her than I was able to. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks ago her 4HP, Mariner 4 stroke Saildrive outboard motor fell off, ‘plop’ and was lost. He had it tied on, but the bit it was tied onto also fell off. Well, you won’t believe it, but you can see the outboard motor on the mud in the videos. Can you spot it? You can see it in both videos, so you can assume it must be close to the entrance to Bough Haven. I've described the engine fully, just in case one of you spots two engines and needs check which is Doranne's. DaveP
