Hello:
After seeing Greg's quick solution for Hc with
Weems (1927) and Dreisonstok H.O. 208 I did a little checking into alternative
methods for my use. Mixter's Primer of Navigation provides a brief review of
"new" methods starting with Line of Position Book, Weems (1927). Weems is pretty
easy to use but obtaining Z by "rules" is not so easy to follow. But if
you just make a sketch the quadrant is available and the extracted value allows
getting Zn.
Instead of H.O. 249, I'm looking for an alternative
short non-calculator method. Is Dreisonstok 1928 H.O. 208 an improvement over
Weems, or is Ageton (1942) A.A.A. method in Manual of Celestial Navigation a far
superior option??
It seems that Ageton's Manual is readily
available for relatively low cost ($ 7.95 U.S. Amazon). I'm probably
going to try a bunch more problems with Weems, no matter what , since I
"invested" $ 7.00 for Line of Position Book.....big spender......
Thanks in advance to all.
Bruce

Attached is the VEGA Hc sight reduction done for both Weems and Dreisonstok on one side of an index card. No form needed.
