The Commodore of the Royal Cruising Club kindly drew my attention to the fact that the full archive of accounts of members voyages are available on line going back to 1883. https://www.rcc.org.uk/logs.aspx (not "logs", prose accounts) The RCC members were some of the pioneers of long distance voyaging in small yachts (typically around 30 feet overall). I was intrigued having seen Eric and Susan Hiscock's film "Beyond the West Horizon" (free on Youtube) to have a look at their accounts. They seemed to make some very good landfalls and there are a few shots in the film of Eric doing extant work. Reportedly his eyesight was poor so I wondered what I could learn about his techniques. I am still looking through logs using the search facility for major ocean crossings. One I came across so far is CRUISE BY STORTEBECKER III FROM AUCKLAND (N.Z.) By Dr. I. J. Franklen-Evans. He mentions on p33 using a Baker Position Line Chart to plot a midday sight. Anyone know what that is? Best wishes Bill Lionheart
