"The Raft Book" by Harold Gatty has been mentioned recently, and quite by accident I came across a magazine article (Popular Science, November 1943) which explains some of its ideas. How to Navigate a Raft https://books.google.com/books?id=wCcDAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA4&source=gbs_toc&cad=2 The articles in the Home Workshop section aren't hyperlinked, but if you manually enter the HW page number, minus 376, that will take you to the article. During the 1940s the magazine got the bright idea to give the Home Workshop section a separate page number sequence which incremented from month to month. Apparently that was beyond the grasp of the Google Books people who set up the hyperlinks in the table of contents. In some Popular Science issues the Home Workshop section has correctly functioning hyperlinks. In others, the links are there but don't take you to the right page. Fortunately, the magazine soon returned to conventional page numbering.
