Hi, My grandfather used to resilver the mirrors in his house by cleaning the back THOROUGHLY, then putting a drop of mercury on the back, and smearing it about with a silver dime. This formed a mercury-silver amalgam, and when it dried, the mirror was good for a while longer. I think that he varnished over it after drying, but can't remember. This makes a second-surface mirror, which may be what you want. I'm not at all sure whether this would make a good first-surface mirror. Grandpa lived to be 92, and was in pretty good health until the day he kicked the bucket, so I would do this outside, on a windy day, and wouldn't worry too much about the health effects. Hope this helps, Nels Glendon wrote: > Hello to List, > > The mirrors (rectangular) on my Heath sextant need to be resilvered. > Does any list member know where I can get that done in Australia, > preferably on the East coast, near Sydney? > > I have also posted this query to the Sextants group, where I am > possibly more likely to get an answer > > Lee Martin
