Bill will likely be happy with your purchase. He checks in here from time to time, but he is also quite approachable otherwise If you get stuck on something, he will likely know the answer.
As to your desire to resilver your own mirrors, I am afraid I cannot help. There may be others on list who can help you, but this part will not be me.
Be very careful when taking your sextant apart. Little springs can leap out and disappear into black holes. I spent the better part of 3 hours searching for one such wayward spring, which in the end could not elude me.

Just ordered a copy of the Sextant Book.
My first contact with a sextant was with Qantas as an apprentice where one of my tasks was to poke the sextant through the roof on the Lockheed Super Connies they had and carry out some checks which escape me now and the driftsight through the floor to perform some checks. I think that is where the curiosity began. Qantas was still called Qantas Empire Airways when I signed up.
