I'm catching up on a week's NavList postings and those very useful random selections that Frank includes at the end of your NavList page access.
One item selected this past week was a one of Frank's postings in 2006 about the salvage of the Cougar Ace.
In 2006, I was quite active in tracking shipbuilding and shipbreaking and saw postings about the Cougar Ace. Attached is a pdf I made of a WIRED magazaine article about the event. Aside from the amazing recovery of the ship, what caught my attention was the desired skill set of salvagers (mountain climbing amoung them) and the impact of product liability - all the cars aboard were scrapped for fear of customer claims on warrentees or inoperable safety equipment like airbags.
Attached is the WIRED article entitled "High Tech Cowboys of the Deep Seas: The Race to Save the Cougar Ace" by Joshua Davis.
