Rolling Cruise Ship
From: Frank Reed CT
Date: 2006 Jul 18, 23:26 -0500
The cruise ship "Crown Princess" rolled today in a sharp unplanned turn
about ten miles off Cape Canaveral Florida. About a dozen people
suffered serious injuries. Reports vary on whether it rolled to port or
starboard. One passenger was quoted as saying it rolled "to port, to
the right", which doesn't help... Another passenger reported that the
ship rolled "all the way over", but from the post-incident pictures I'm
guessing that the angle was a lot less, perhaps 15 degrees (just a
guess), scary nonetheless. Several reports note that some of the
swimming pools were partially emptied during the roll, but the photos
show pools that appear to be full.
The Crown Princess is a huge vessel, comparable in size to an aircraft
carrier. It is brand new.
So how does this happen??

PS: According to one cruise review published on msnb.com last week, the
Crown Princess has a huge movie screen out on deck. One some nights the
midnight show is "Titanic". The gods of the sea may not be amused...
